Land Between the Lakes - Hiking the Honker Lake Trail - October 2020
Troop 521 combined requirements for the Cooking merit badge with a 5.4 mile loop hike at Land Between the Lakes. Starting at the Woodlands Nature Station, we hiked the Honker Lake Trail, snacking on home-made trail mix, stopping halfway for a cold lunch and then a hot cooked meal at the pavilion when we finished the hike.
Our newest Scout earned his Totin' Chip and can now carry and use a knife. In addition to working on merit badges, he completed requirements for both Scout and Tenderfoot.
PB&J sandwiches for lunch. A fine tradition. Note the fancy table setting!
The weather was fantastic, cool with a light breeze. What a wonderful day to be hiking in the woods with friends.
Here we are at the 3-mile marker. That's 2.4 miles down and 3 to go. Almost half-way!

Keep in mind that, in order to provide two meals, one cooked as well as a snack, the Scout had to carry with him all of the incredients and cooking gear necessary for trail meals. Here he is preparing chicken fajitas with his backpacking skillet and stove. Another requirement is to ask the Scouts who share the meal to evaluate it. He got good reponses and completed the requirement.
